Building a Story Brand

The StoryBrand 7-Part Framework (SB7) is a storytelling method that businesses can use to connect with customers and grow. The framework is based on the hero’s journey and is made up of seven steps:

  • A character: The customer or potential customer who wants something
  • Has a problem: The customer faces challenges, both practical and emotional
  • And meets a guide: The business is the guide who helps the customer overcome their barriers to success
  • Who gives them a plan: The guide gives the character a plan to help them achieve their goal
  • And calls them to action: The guide calls the character to action
  • That ends in success: The character takes action and avoids failure, ultimately achieving success
  • And helps them avoid failure: The guide helps the character avoid failure and achieve success
Building a Story Brand

Key Principles to Build YOUR StoryBrand:

  • Customer as Hero: The customer, not the brand, should be the central figure in the story.
  • Clarity Over Complexity: Simplify messages to ensure they are easily understood.
  • Address Internal Problems: While external problems are evident, addressing customers’ internal challenges fosters deeper connections.

To Apply the StoryBrand Framework, Businesses Should:

  • Clarify Messaging: Ensure all communications are straightforward and customer-centric.
  • Align Marketing Materials: Use the framework to guide the creation of websites, advertisements, and other marketing assets.
  • Train Teams: Educate employees on the framework to maintain consistency in customer interactions.

By adopting this approach, companies can enhance customer engagement and drive business growth.

Building a StoryBrand offers a structured methodology for businesses to refine their messaging through storytelling. By positioning customers as the heroes and the brand as a guiding mentor, companies can create compelling narratives that resonate and lead to increased customer loyalty and sales.
