AI Social Media Creation Smackdown

by AI, TIPS & TOOLS

From the Desk of: OMG Art Director, Harriet Grant

The AI revolution is in full swing and I’ve been taking 30 workshops a week to try to keep up (ok maybe not that many).

In the meantime, my social media feed is looking anemic and I realize that I need to generate some content ASAP.

Enter AI! There are TONS of AI apps that can help you build everything from a full ad campaign to a single instagram post.

I tested three apps that handle social media content creation. I used the same prompt, tone and image type for all three. All output was created for free with the trial versions of each app.

The Challenge:

Create a social media post for a cat toy using AI for image and text creation.

AdMaker by Picsart

Quick Impressions:

The interface is easy to use. Image generation isn’t bad, but it’s not perfect. You can use prompts to generate AI headlines, body text, etc for your post, but the copy doesn’t always make sense. It gives you multiple options for text that you can keep tweaking until satisfied.

Pros:

You can preview your ad as a Facebook post, Instagram post, Instagram Story, or Facebook Reel.

Cons:

Copy mostly reads like it was written by a machine (which it was!).

Creatopy

Quick Impressions:

Creatopy’s AI image generator is in beta and it definitely had some issues. It created 4 images and I picked the least weird one. I wasn’t able to find a way to generate text for the post. You can preview the image in the Instagram format.

Pros:

Preview post in situ.

Cons:

Beta image creation needs work. No text generation for social media posts.

Narrato

Quick Impressions:

Narrato was great for creating AI text for 3 versions of the same ad. Good for A/B and C testing. Ad copy includes emojis and hashtags.

Ad #1 Copy:
Primary text: Forget Netflix, your cat now has their own entertainment system – introducing The Best Cat Toy EVER! 🎬🐱
Headline: Cat’s New Fave Toy!
Hashtags: #HappyFeline #BestCatToy #CatLife #KittyPlaytime #Purrfection

Wins the award for most surreal image!

Pros:

Robust copy generation including hashtags and emojis.

Cons:

Does not show the ad in situ.

In conclusion, these apps are good if you need to quickly come up with concepts for social posts. The AI imagery generation isn’t ideal and tends to have a similar look (not great for standing out in a crowd), but you can upload your own brand photos into all of these apps. It’s best to have any AI copy tweaked by a human.

TIP: It is important that you hone your prompts to be as clear as possible. With AI it’s all about the prompts.

And the Challenge Winner is...

Narrato!

For multiple text options (great for AB testing), ease of use and most surreal visual interpretation of a cat toy.
